Boston, MA – Power outages and travel disruptions are possible across the Cape and Islands today as strong east winds continue through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. EDT Monday for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties in Massachusetts, as well as Block Island, Rhode Island. Forecasters expect sustained east winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Officials warn that unsecured outdoor items could be blown around and tree limbs may come down, potentially leading to isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles should use caution on bridges and open roads, where crosswinds could make driving difficult.

The storm system driving today’s gusty conditions is expected to weaken later tonight, allowing winds to gradually subside after sunset.

Residents across coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island are urged to secure loose items and avoid unnecessary travel in exposed areas until the advisory expires.
