New York, NY – The National Weather Service in New York City says that leftover rain showers will linger into this evening as a strong cold front pushes through the region, marking the end of the recent mild stretch.

Today’s highs will reach the upper 50s to near 60°F for much of the metro area and Long Island, with mid-50s inland. However, once the front passes, westerly winds will strengthen, gusting between 35 and 45 mph by late tonight into Thanksgiving Day.

By Thursday, temperatures will drop sharply, with highs only in the mid-40s, and wind chills in the 30s. The cold air deepens Friday, when highs may struggle to reach the low 40s across much of the region.

Forecast Breakdown:

  • 🌦️ Today (Wednesday): Mild with scattered showers. Highs 56–60°F.
  • 🌬️ Tonight–Thursday: Turning windy and colder. Gusts up to 45 mph.
  • ❄️ Friday: Mostly sunny but cold and breezy. Highs in the low 40s.

NWS Reminder:
Secure any outdoor decorations or loose items before winds ramp up this evening. Gusty conditions could make travel on bridges and overpasses challenging at times Thursday.
