The call came in at 9:11 a.m. from a resident who reported hearing popping sounds and noticing power loss. Crews arrived within minutes and saw smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the home. Firefighters made entry and found a small section of the attic burning.
According to the department, the fire was brought under control by 9:35 a.m. and fully extinguished less than 10 minutes later using a quick-attack method. The fire was declared under control roughly 20 minutes after the initial call.
A total of 10 firefighters and two EMS personnel were on scene, with assistance from the Streator Police Department, ComEd, and Illinois American Water. No injuries were reported among residents or responders.
Investigators said the fire was accidental and suspected to be electrical in nature. Damage was described as minor on the first level and moderate in the attic area. Crews remained on scene for about two hours for overhaul and salvage operations.
