Mesa, AZ – Storms are likely to develop this afternoon and evening over the higher terrain and lower deserts of south-central Arizona, including areas near Mesa. Gusty winds, localized heavy rain, and dangerous lightning are the primary hazards forecasted. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix issued a thunderstorm outlook for Sunday, warning residents of potential severe weather conditions.

According to the NWS, scattered showers and storms are expected to emerge over the higher terrain north and east of Phoenix, extending towards the Mesa area. Showers in the lower deserts will depend on the development of deep outflow boundaries, which could lead to heavy downpours and blowing dust. Gusty winds exceeding 35 mph are also possible, raising concerns over reduced visibility due to blowing dust.

Isolated storms may also impact Joshua Tree National Park in southeastern California, bringing similar conditions of gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning. The NWS emphasizes that all storms could produce deadly lightning, urging residents and visitors in the affected areas to remain indoors during the storms and stay updated with the latest weather alerts.
