Dodge City, KS – Thunderstorms are expected to develop along the K-96 corridor tonight, bringing gusty winds and significant lightning risks. The storm activity is forecasted between 10 p.m. tonight and 3 a.m. Thursday, primarily affecting areas from Scott City to Hays.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City, while winds could reach speeds of up to 50 mph, the main concern during these hours is the potential for frequent lightning strikes. Residents are advised to take precautions, as even a brief storm could pose significant risks.
As the storms pass, an upper-level ridge in the Rockies is expected to move into the Central Plains, causing a significant increase in temperatures. By Friday, widespread highs of 100 degrees are anticipated, continuing into Saturday afternoon. The NWS notes that temperatures will steadily rise, with Dodge City expected to reach 101°F on Friday and 103°F on Saturday. The heat will persist through the weekend, with little relief expected until early next week.
