Memphis is set to experience a significant weather event, as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a strong chance of thunderstorms and possible severe conditions on Thursday. The potential for isolated severe thunderstorms will heighten overnight in parts of northeast Arkansas and across the Mid-South. Residents in Memphis and surrounding areas should prepare for damaging winds as the primary threat, especially during the early morning hours on Thursday.
According to the NWS, the Memphis area will begin to see showers and possible thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Thursday, with the most intense weather expected between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. A high of 72°F is expected, accompanied by strong south-southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts reaching up to 25 mph. The forecast calls for a 90% chance of precipitation, with rainfall potentially accumulating to nearly an inch in certain areas.
The storm threat continues into Thursday evening, with showers and thunderstorms lingering until after midnight. Residents are advised to stay updated through the NWS and local news for weather advisories, as conditions could shift. Flash flooding is not anticipated, but localized heavy rain may impact visibility and travel during peak morning hours.
Looking ahead, Memphis can expect a mix of mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers on Friday, with a high near 71°F. Over the weekend, temperatures will dip slightly with highs in the upper 70s and a continuing slight chance of showers. By Sunday, conditions are forecasted to clear with partly sunny skies and highs reaching around 82°F, providing a respite from the stormy week.
