Stolen Vehicle Recovered on Route 41 in Lake County, Teen Driver Arrested

Lake County, IL – A stolen vehicle driven by a teenager was recovered by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department on Friday morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the incident unfolded Friday morning when a patrol sergeant spotted a Hyundai Sonata speeding along Route 41 near Casimir Pulaski Drive in North Chicago around 2:30 a.m.

The vehicle, clocked at 93 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, was stopped by the sergeant who discovered signs of theft, including a shattered window and a damaged steering column. Investigations revealed the car had been stolen shortly before from an apartment complex in Waukegan.

A 16-year-old boy from Waukegan, identified as the driver, along with two passengers – a 20-year-old man from Chicago and an 18-year-old man from Waukegan – were arrested. They are currently in the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, with criminal charges pending as the investigation continues.
