Spokane, WA – A multi-county pursuit involving Stevens County, Spokane County and Washington State Patrol ended Tuesday after deputies arrested a wanted felon who allegedly fled law enforcement for the second time in just two days.

According to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday when deputies attempted to stop a green Ford Expedition on U.S. Highway 395. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Jeffrey E. Baumann, was allegedly impaired and had reportedly rammed a Stevens County patrol vehicle during the initial stop attempt.

Deputies say Baumann is the same suspect who allegedly fled from Spokane Valley Deputies on November 9, 2025, striking two uninvolved vehicles. He also has an active felony warrant in Idaho stemming from a previous eluding case in Kootenai County.

As the chase moved into North Spokane County, deputies attempted to deploy spike strips, noting Baumann’s history and the risk to the public. At one point, he allegedly crossed the median and drove south in the northbound lanes of Highway 395 at about 70 mph, forcing deputies to remain in the proper lanes to avoid further danger.

The chase continued onto N. Hatch Road and Dartford Road before Spokane County deputies took the lead. On W. Monroe Road, spike strips deflated the passenger-side tires, though Baumann continued driving and ignored stop signs. His speed slowed to roughly 30 mph before he left the roadway near E. Handy Road, where deputies boxed in his vehicle and safely arrested him.

Baumann was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a new felony charge of Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, along with charges tied to the November 9 incident. Additional charges in Stevens County and the Idaho felony warrant remain active
