Spokane, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across the North Central Washington mountains through 11 p.m. Sunday, as a strong storm system continues to bring heavy mountain snow and gusty winds to higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, snow is expected above 3,000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches forecast for Stevens Pass, Holden Village, and Washington Pass. The Loup Loup Pass area may see up to 2 inches by the end of the weekend.

Forecasters warn that travel could be very difficult, especially along U.S. Highway 2 and State Route 20, where slick roads, reduced visibility, and falling tree branches could pose additional hazards.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check the latest road conditions at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before heading into mountain passes. High winds and bursts of snow may create whiteout conditions at times, particularly Sunday morning and evening.

Officials recommend motorists carry chains, blankets, food, and emergency supplies when traveling through high elevations this weekend.
