Freeport, IL – A series of coordinated search warrants in Freeport on Wednesday led to the recovery of multiple firearms and large quantities of suspected narcotics, according to police.

According to the Freeport Police Department, officers, along with the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police Stateline Area Narcotics Team, carried out search warrants at homes in the 700 block of East Stephenson, the 800 block of South Carroll and the 400 block of West Chestnut on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025.

During those searches, officers recovered three firearms, about 3.5 pounds of suspected cannabis and approximately 902 grams of suspected cocaine, authorities said.

Kyle Shirley, 46, of Freeport, was taken into custody and allegedly found in possession of a weapon as a convicted felon, according to police. The Stephenson County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony charge of possession of a weapon by a felon, with additional charges pending review.

Shirley was transported to the Stephenson County Jail, where he is being held pending the outcome of a detention hearing, police said.

Authorities emphasized that the defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial. Prosecutors must prove any alleged crimes beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
