Madison, WI – All of Wisconsin is under an Air Quality Alert through noon Monday as dense smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts south, pushing fine particulate matter (PM2.5) into unhealthy levels.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the advisory begins at 12 a.m. Saturday and continues until 12 p.m. Monday. PM2.5 levels are expected to reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) to Unhealthy levels across the state. Northern counties, including Douglas, Ashland, and Price, may see periods of Very Unhealthy conditions, especially overnight and early Saturday.
The smoke will gradually move southeast, impacting cities like Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Kenosha by late Saturday. Residents with asthma, heart conditions, or other sensitivities are urged to remain indoors, use air purifiers if available, and avoid prolonged outdoor activity.
While some relief is expected Sunday, air quality will remain compromised statewide. Southwestern areas, including La Crosse and Prairie du Chien, may experience lower concentrations, but still fall into the Moderate to USG range.
Air quality alerts remain in effect until noon Monday. Residents should check airquality.wi.gov for the latest updates.
