Oklahoma City, OK – The National Weather Service offices in Norman and Tulsa have issued a Flood Watch for most of Oklahoma, effective Friday morning through Saturday morning, as multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are forecast to bring 2 to 5 inches of rainfall across the state.

The Flood Watch includes major metro areas such as Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Lawton, Enid, Ada, Muskogee, and Ardmore, as well as parts of northern Texas. According to meteorologists, training storms — repeated rounds of rain over the same locations — could lead to flash flooding of creeks, low-lying areas, and urban streets.

In northeastern Oklahoma, rainfall is expected to begin Friday morning, with heaviest bands continuing overnight into early Saturday. The Tulsa NWS office reports that locally higher totals of 4–5 inches are possible, especially along and north of Interstate 44.

The Norman NWS warns that flood-prone areas, rivers, and small streams may rise rapidly, and drivers should avoid attempting to cross water-covered roads.

Rainfall should gradually taper off from west to east by Saturday morning, but saturated soils may lead to continued river and stream rises through the weekend.

Residents across central and eastern Oklahoma are urged to stay weather aware, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for possible Flood Warnings as the system develops.
