Harrisburg, PA – A wind advisory is in effect for much of central Pennsylvania, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph expected through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, strong west winds of 15 to 25 mph will sweep through counties including Dauphin, Blair, Centre, York, and Lancaster from 10 a.m. until at least 8 p.m. Additional areas affected include Altoona, State College, Harrisburg, and Williamsport.

Officials warn that unsecured outdoor objects may be blown around, and downed tree limbs could lead to localized power outages. High-profile vehicles may also experience difficulty on exposed roadways, particularly along I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution when driving, especially on elevated roadways or near open fields. Residents should secure lawn furniture, garbage bins, and other loose items to prevent property damage or road hazards.

The advisory may be extended if strong gusts persist into the evening. Wind conditions of this strength are not uncommon in April, but the widespread nature of today’s event increases the risk of damage.
