State College, Pa. – Drivers across central Pennsylvania should brace for Sunday storms and gusty winds as early summer heat builds later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a chance of showers begins Sunday morning, with thunderstorms most likely between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Gusts could reach 29 mph, and while rainfall totals will be light, isolated downpours may impact travel, especially along Route 322 and I-99. The high will top out around 66°F, cooler than average for early June.

Sunday night clears out, but cooler air settles in with lows around 42°F. Monday marks a sharp transition, bringing sunny skies and a warmer high near 73°F. By Tuesday, summer heat returns in full force — expect highs of 83°F under clear skies, with overnight lows remaining mild near 58°F.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to impact air quality early this week, especially during calm overnight hours. Those with respiratory concerns should monitor conditions and limit outdoor activity if haze increases.

Looking ahead, Wednesday stays dry and mostly clear with highs near 87°F. Thursday brings another round of showers and possible thunderstorms in the evening, while Friday appears unstable with a 70% chance of showers under mostly cloudy skies and highs near 81°F.

Stay weather-aware: Stronger storms could develop Thursday night. More updates and alerts may be issued as summer weather patterns settle in across central PA.
