State College, PA – Thunderstorms could disrupt travel and trigger flash flooding in Centre County by midday Thursday, July 31st, as a potent summer system pushes through central Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, multiple rounds of showers and isolated severe thunderstorms are expected to begin between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday. The storms will continue through Thursday evening, with gusty winds and locally heavy rain posing a risk of street flooding and power outages. Areas along Route 322 and low-lying zones in State College may be especially vulnerable.

Rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch are likely, with higher amounts possible in areas experiencing strong thunderstorm cells. Isolated wind damage is also possible during the afternoon.

Drivers are urged to use caution on roadways during and after storms, as flash flooding may make travel hazardous. PennDOT crews may be dispatched for downed trees or flooded underpasses if severe cells develop.

Conditions will calm into Friday, but scattered showers could still linger through the morning. The weekend, however, brings a welcome shift.
