Pennsylvania – Wind snaps at coats this morning across central Pennsylvania, rattling flags and pushing cold air through valleys. Pavement looks dry for now, but the feel of winter is unmistakable as gusts sweep through State College and surrounding ridges.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures hover in the low 30s today with strong northwest winds gusting over 25 mph. Wind chills dip into the teens early, especially along higher terrain near Centre County. While skies stay mostly sunny, exposed roads and bridges can cool quickly, setting the stage for slick spots after dark.

Conditions begin changing Monday. Clouds thicken, and temperatures rise into the upper 30s by afternoon. By Monday night, snow becomes likely, followed by a wintry mix. Light snow accumulations remain under an inch, but freezing rain may follow toward Tuesday morning. That changeover is the concern. Even a thin glaze can create dangerous travel on I-99, U.S. 322, and local mountain roads.

Tuesday brings periods of freezing rain, possibly mixing with rain later as highs reach the mid-40s. Winds increase again, and untreated surfaces may turn slick fast. Plan extra time, avoid sudden braking, and check road conditions before heading out.

By Wednesday, colder air briefly returns with drier conditions and highs near 41. Christmas travel then comes into focus. Another round of rain chances develops Wednesday night into Thursday, which could keep roads wet during peak holiday movement.

Winter is just getting started here. Keep winter kits ready, watch bridges during temperature swings, and stay alert as conditions evolve. Seeing flakes or slick spots near you?
