Pennsylvania — Cold air bites hard across central Pennsylvania this morning, frosting sidewalks and turning breath into clouds around State College. Flurries drift through the air, light but persistent, as winter conditions remain locked in place.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect this morning, with another advisory scheduled early Thursday. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 15 below zero at times, creating a serious risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone outdoors too long.
Temperatures struggle to climb today, with highs near the lower teens. Periodic flurries continue through the day and into tonight, offering little accumulation but plenty of slick spots. Roads may appear dry, then suddenly icy, especially on untreated surfaces and elevated bridges. Drivers should use extra caution along Route 322 and local roads around Centre County.
Flurries linger into Thursday, with highs near 15. Winds increase at times, keeping wind chills near or below zero through much of the day. Any snow that melts briefly can refreeze quickly after sunset, increasing the risk of flash freezing Thursday night.
Friday brings brighter skies and some relief from falling snow, but the cold remains stubborn. Highs stay near the mid-teens, with overnight lows dropping well below zero. Saturday looks quieter and slightly milder, though still cold, with highs in the mid-teens and calmer winds.
By Sunday, temperatures begin a slow climb into the lower 20s. The broader pattern shows Arctic air lingering across the Northeast while warmer air builds farther south. Even as flurries fade, cold remains the primary concern through the weekend.
Limit time outdoors today. Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and plan extra travel time. Check on neighbors who may be vulnerable to the cold.
