State College, Pennsylvania – Snow could begin before sunrise Sunday, and up to 8 inches may fall across central Pennsylvania by Monday afternoon, threatening slick highways ahead of the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late tonight through Monday afternoon for a large stretch of central Pennsylvania, including Centre, Blair, Huntingdon, Clearfield, Bedford, Franklin and surrounding counties. Snow totals between 3 and 8 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Statewide impacts will focus on the central ridges and Susquehanna Valley. In State College, Altoona, Lewistown and Selinsgrove, snow-covered roads could develop Sunday and persist into Monday. Interstates 80 and 99, along with Route 22 and Route 322, may become slick as heavier bands set up. Forecasters caution that localized snow bands could push totals higher in some communities.

Travel could become very difficult, especially during the Monday morning commute. Drivers should prepare for changing conditions, limit non-essential travel and monitor PennDOT’s 511 system for real-time updates. The watch may be upgraded to warnings if heavier snow bands become more certain.
