STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Another Freeze Warning goes into effect late Thursday night for much of central and northern Pennsylvania, where temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s to upper 20s from 11PM to 9AM EDT Friday. The National Weather Service said this second freeze in less than 24 hours will likely end the growing season across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, the warning covers McKean, Clinton, Centre, Blair, Lycoming, Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, Bedford, and surrounding counties, including cities such as State College, Altoona, Williamsport, and Bradford. Clear skies and calm winds will allow deep overnight cooling, with frost and freezing temperatures lasting several hours in sheltered valleys.

Residents and farmers are urged to take immediate precautions. Sensitive vegetation should be covered or brought indoors, and outdoor plumbing should be drained or insulated. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, widespread plant damage and crop loss are likely where protective measures aren’t taken.

Drivers should prepare for frosted windshields and slick bridge surfaces Friday morning. The coldest air will occur before sunrise, followed by gradual warming into the upper 40s under bright sunshine. Another chilly night is likely Friday before temperatures moderate over the weekend.
