State College, Pennsylvania – Strong winds continue to impact the State College area as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 12 p.m. EST today, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service office in State College reports west winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, across portions of central Pennsylvania. These winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages.
As of early Tuesday, conditions at State College Regional Airport showed temperatures near 23°F, with sustained winds around 23 mph and gusts exceeding 30 mph, producing wind chills near 7°F. High temperatures today are expected to reach only 27°F, keeping conditions cold in addition to windy.
The Wind Advisory covers much of central Pennsylvania, including Centre County and surrounding communities. Motorists, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, are urged to use extra caution due to strong crosswinds on open roadways.
Looking ahead, a few periods of snow showers are expected beginning late tonight and continuing into Wednesday, particularly across higher elevations of northern and western Pennsylvania. A fresh coating to 2 inches of snow is possible in those areas, while lighter amounts are expected near State College.
On Wednesday, highs are forecast near 30°F, with snow showers becoming more likely by afternoon and evening. Overnight lows Wednesday night are expected to drop to around 17°F.
Conditions improve slightly on New Year’s Day, with highs near 23°F and only a slight chance of lingering snow showers. Winds will gradually ease after today, though colder-than-normal temperatures will persist through the end of the week.
Spotters are encouraged to report significant weather impacts, though organized spotter activation is not expected.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and monitor local conditions as strong winds and winter weather continue.
