STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Central Pennsylvania residents could see flash flooding Wednesday afternoon as slow-moving thunderstorms bring bursts of heavy rain, with more than an inch possible in less than an hour. Localized flooding in poor drainage areas and along small streams remains the main threat through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, scattered thunderstorms will build through the afternoon and evening, with the heaviest rainfall likely between 5 and 10 p.m. Affected counties include Centre, Dauphin, Lycoming, Franklin, Adams, and York. Drivers should use caution on secondary roads where water may quickly pool.

Showers will linger into early Thursday morning before skies begin to clear. The chance for additional widespread hazardous weather later this week is low, forecasters said. By Friday, sunshine and highs in the low 80s will provide a break from the unsettled pattern.

Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor updates from county emergency management. Spotters are encouraged to report heavy rainfall or flooding to the National Weather Service.

Warnings remain in effect through tonight, with conditions improving by Thursday morning.
