St. Louis, MO – After a brief warm-up on Saturday, a strong push of cold air will move back into the St. Louis region Saturday night, sending temperatures sharply below freezing and keeping them there for several days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in St. Louis.
According to NWS forecasters, temperatures on Saturday will briefly climb into the mid-30s as a mix of snow and rain moves across the metro. Behind the system, however, readings will fall quickly Saturday night, dropping into the low to mid-20s by early Sunday morning. The cold stretch continues into early next week, with temperatures running roughly 20 degrees below normal for late November and early December.
Forecast charts show highs struggling to reach the upper 20s and lower 30s through at least Tuesday, with overnight lows commonly dipping into the teens. Forecasters note that the extended period below freezing will make conditions feel more like mid-winter than early December.
NWS is also watching the potential for another round of light snow early next week. While details are still uncertain, late Monday currently appears to be the most favored window for accumulation. Any snow that falls is expected to be light due to limited moisture—but with temperatures so cold, even small amounts will stick to roads and elevated surfaces.
Drivers should plan for periods of slick travel, particularly during the Monday evening commute and early Tuesday morning. Additional updates will be issued as forecast confidence increases.
