St. Louis, Missouri – Heavy rounds of showers and thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across Missouri as early as Friday afternoon, with repeated waves continuing through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, rain chances surge to 60–90 percent Friday with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected across much of the state. The activity continues into Friday night, with a 20–50 percent chance of storms, especially across central and southeast Missouri. Additional rounds redevelop Saturday and intensify again Sunday, when storm coverage climbs back to 60–80 percent.

The most consistent impacts will stretch from Columbia and Jefferson City east into the St. Louis metro, where periods of heavy rain could lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility during peak travel times. Drivers along I-70, I-44, and I-55 should prepare for sudden slowdowns and slick conditions, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.

Temperatures will vary widely, with highs ranging from near 60 degrees in northern Missouri to around 80 degrees farther south, adding instability to fuel storm development. Overnight lows will stay mild, generally in the 40s and 50s.

Residents should keep devices charged, monitor alerts, and avoid flooded roadways. The unsettled pattern is expected to linger through Sunday night, and additional advisories could be issued as storms redevelop.
