St. Louis, Mo. – Summerlike heat is returning to Missouri this week, with temperatures climbing steadily into the 90s by Friday under mostly dry skies. After a mild start to September, residents will face unseasonably warm afternoons, raising concerns for heat-sensitive groups.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, daily highs will rise from the upper 70s today to the low and mid-90s by the end of the week. Nights will remain relatively comfortable early on, with lows in the 50s, before humidity and warmer overnight temperatures build heading into the weekend.

Cities along the I-70 corridor, including Columbia, St. Charles, and St. Louis, are expected to see the sharpest jump in temperatures, with Friday’s highs reaching near 95 degrees. Southern Missouri may see slightly lower values, though sunshine will keep conditions dry statewide.

Health officials recommend limiting strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and checking on elderly neighbors as the heat intensifies. While no rain is expected through Friday, the warmer stretch could increase wildfire risks in grassy areas across central Missouri.

The National Weather Service says the warming trend will hold through the weekend, with more updates possible if temperatures push closer to record levels.
