St. Louis, Mo. – A midweek cold front will bring much-needed rain to Missouri, with thunderstorms expected to roll into the St. Louis area late Wednesday and overnight. Drivers and evening commuters should prepare for wet conditions that may linger into early Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, temperatures will remain near to below seasonal averages this week. Highs will climb into the low 80s Wednesday before dipping into the 70s on Thursday behind the front. The agency notes that scattered thunderstorms could deliver localized heavy rain, a welcome shift after several dry stretches across the state.
The storm risk will be highest across central and eastern Missouri, including highways I-44 and I-70. Residents in Columbia, Jefferson City, and Metro East communities should expect brief downpours, gusty winds, and possible lightning after sunset Wednesday.
Officials urge caution on the roads, especially for those traveling late Wednesday night. Keeping devices charged and avoiding outdoor activities during lightning are recommended safety steps.
The system is expected to clear quickly, with drier and cooler weather settling in by Thursday afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if storms strengthen overnight.
