St. Louis, Missouri – Brutal heat and humidity will grip Missouri through midweek, with dangerous conditions expected to ease by Tuesday evening north of I-70 and Wednesday south of it.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, residents north of I-70 — including Columbia, Hannibal and parts of St. Charles County — will start to see relief after sunset Tuesday. Meanwhile, cities like St. Louis, Rolla, and Poplar Bluff should prepare for extended heat through late Wednesday.

Temperatures in the mid to upper 90s paired with oppressive humidity will push heat index values past 105°F during peak afternoon hours. NWS urges everyone to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and seek out cooling centers if needed. Power grids may experience strain as A/C usage peaks.

Southbound drivers on I-55 and I-44 should be prepared for heat-related vehicle issues. School sports practices and outdoor work should be rescheduled or shortened, especially in southeast Missouri.

The good news: a major shift arrives Thursday. Temperatures drop into the 80s with much lower humidity, setting up a “refreshing” weekend across the state.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday evening. More updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
