St. Louis, Missouri – Dangerously high temperatures will grip much of Missouri through Tuesday, with heat indexes topping 100 degrees each afternoon and little cooling overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect for central and eastern Missouri—including St. Louis, Hillsboro, and Rolla—starting Saturday and continuing through Tuesday. Heat advisories are already active in western parts of the state, including Columbia and Jefferson City. Overnight lows will hover in the 70s, offering minimal relief from the oppressive daytime heat.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, hydrate regularly, and check on elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning. Outdoor workers and event planners should reschedule activities to early morning or late evening hours whenever possible.

The extended period of extreme heat could strain power grids and raise the risk of heat-related illness, especially in urban areas with limited shade. This marks the first prolonged heat event of the season, arriving just ahead of the official start of summer.

Advisories remain in place through Tuesday evening, with additional warnings possible if heat persists or intensifies.
