ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Dangerous heat will grip Missouri through Monday as temperatures climb into the upper 90s and heat index values soar past 105°F. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the St. Louis metro until at least 8 p.m. Monday, with officials urging residents to limit time outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, daytime highs Saturday and Sunday will reach 98 to 99°F, with heat index values as high as 106°F Sunday afternoon. Overnight lows won’t provide much relief, staying in the upper 70s. The advisory warns that prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for those without air conditioning.
Southwest winds around 5 mph will bring little cooling effect. Emergency management agencies recommend staying hydrated, checking on elderly neighbors, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
The extreme heat is expected to ease slightly by Tuesday, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms developing after 1 p.m. Temperatures will still reach the upper 90s before a gradual cooldown arrives midweek, with highs returning to the 80s by Wednesday.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday evening, and further advisories could be issued if hot conditions persist.
