St. Louis, Mo. – Mild late-summer weather in Missouri will give way to dangerous heat by the end of the week, with a heat index potentially topping 105°F across much of the state. The National Weather Service warns that the return of triple-digit heat could make outdoor activities unsafe, particularly for those without adequate shade or hydration.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, highs will remain in the 80s today and near 90 Thursday before surging into the low to mid-90s Friday. Combined with humidity, that will push the heat index into the 95–100°F range. Saturday and Sunday could see heat index values between 97 and 105°F, especially in urban centers such as St. Louis, Columbia, and Jefferson City.
Officials advise limiting strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and ensuring pets have shade and water. Prolonged exposure without protection could result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
The heat wave is expected to persist through Sunday, with possible advisories or warnings issued later this week.
