St. Louis, Missouri – Strong winds could make travel difficult across eastern Missouri and western Illinois late tonight through Friday morning, as a cold front moves through the region with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday through 11 a.m. Friday. Winds are expected to increase overnight as the front approaches, bringing periods of strong gusts across the metro area.
Communities including St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson City, Columbia, and Quincy could see the strongest gusts overnight into the early morning hours. Major travel routes such as Interstate 70, Interstate 64, and Interstate 55 may experience difficult driving conditions, especially for semi-trucks, buses, and other high-profile vehicles.
Officials warn that unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, and tree limbs could break under stronger gusts, potentially leading to isolated power outages.
Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations before winds increase tonight. Drivers should allow extra distance between vehicles and use caution on open highways and bridges.
Wind speeds should begin to gradually decrease late Friday morning, though breezy conditions may linger through the afternoon as cooler air settles into the region.
