Columbia, Missouri – Dense fog blanketed much of Missouri early Saturday, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less and creating hazardous driving conditions through 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Kansas City, Springfield, and St. Louis, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for over 40 counties, stretching from Quincy, Illinois, down to Jefferson City and east to Sedalia. Cities affected include Columbia, Kirksville, Macon, Warrensburg, and Hannibal. Motorists along I-70, US-63, and US-36 are urged to drive with extreme caution.

Foggy conditions are especially dangerous along rural highways and river valleys where temperature and moisture are combining to form dense, patchy layers. Schools and morning commuters may see delays or reduced visibility on their routes.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles. Law enforcement reports minor incidents already this morning, particularly in low-lying stretches of central Missouri.

This is Missouri’s first widespread fog advisory of June and follows a humid overnight cooldown. Conditions should begin improving mid-morning as temperatures rise.

Warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday. More advisories may be issued if visibility fails to improve.
