St. Louis, Missouri – Thunderstorm chances are climbing across northeast Missouri beginning late Thursday afternoon, with locally heavy rain expected to spread southeast into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, initial storm activity may start around Quincy, Columbia, and Moberly Thursday evening, carrying a 20–40% chance of development. By Friday, the threat grows to 60% along and north of I-70 and I-64, including areas near St. Louis, Jefferson City, and St. Charles.
While severe weather isn’t anticipated, rainfall rates could be intense enough to cause ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Commuters should stay alert for slick conditions Friday morning, especially on I-70 and Route 61. The showers are also expected to bring a welcome cooldown, with temperatures dropping from the mid-90s to the low 80s in affected areas.
Areas south of I-70, including Farmington, Cape Girardeau, and Rolla, are likely to remain mostly dry but hot.
Rain chances taper off late Friday, but additional updates may follow if rainfall becomes more widespread or intense.
