St. Louis, Missouri – Strong winds and a developing storm threat could disrupt travel and outdoor plans within hours across eastern Missouri and much of Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., with south winds gusting up to 45 mph. These winds alone could create hazardous driving conditions along I-44, I-64, and I-70, especially for high-profile vehicles, while also increasing the risk of downed branches and isolated power outages.
At the same time, conditions are being monitored for possible severe thunderstorm development between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m., mainly across eastern Missouri and central to southern Illinois. While confidence remains uncertain, any storms that do form could produce damaging winds, large hail, and a brief tornado.
Cities including St. Louis, Columbia, Jefferson City, and Belleville may see rapidly changing conditions late this afternoon into the evening if storms intensify.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items now and stay weather aware through the evening hours. The storm threat remains conditional, but additional alerts may be issued quickly if storms develop.
