St. Louis, MO – Residents across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois should prepare for slow and slippery travel beginning after midnight tonight, as a Winter Weather Advisory spans the entire region through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected in counties stretching from Bond, Fayette, Clinton, Marion, Washington, Calhoun, Jersey, Madison, and St. Clair in Illinois to Shelby, Marion, Monroe, Ralls, Pike, Audrain, Montgomery, Lincoln, Warren, St. Charles, St. Louis County, and St. Louis City in Missouri. Snow will begin developing after midnight and continue at varying intensities through Saturday evening.

Forecasters warn that winds gusting up to 35 mph may reduce visibility during heavier bursts of snow, particularly along open stretches of I-70, I-55, and U.S. 61. While snowfall totals are moderate, the combination of wind and persistent light-to-steady snow could lead to slick roads through much of Saturday.

Drivers in the St. Louis metro, Metro East, and communities including Hannibal, Mexico, Vandalia, Salem, Alton, Belleville, and Bowling Green should prepare for slowed travel during the Saturday morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures hovering near the freezing mark mean untreated roads may become snow-covered quickly.

Transportation officials advise motorists to slow down, leave extra space for braking, and monitor updated travel conditions. Illinois residents can check road impacts at GettingAroundIllinois.com, while Missouri drivers can access MoDOT’s travel map or call the state’s road condition hotline.

Snow is expected to taper late Saturday night, though patchy ice may linger into early Sunday, especially on bridges and overpasses.
