St. Louis, MO – After weeks of dry conditions, parts of Missouri and Illinois are set to receive a much-needed soaking this weekend. According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a widespread rain system will move across the region Saturday into Saturday night, bringing beneficial rainfall to many drought-stricken areas.
Forecasters say many locations could see around one inch or more of rain, with the heaviest totals expected in southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois. The rain should help improve soil moisture and support crop and vegetation recovery, though officials caution that multiple additional rain events will be needed to fully erase the drought.
Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s and overnight lows in the 50s. Scattered showers may linger into early Sunday before conditions begin to dry out.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for rainfall totals and possible ponding on rural roads Saturday evening.
