St. Louis, MO – A quick-moving cold front will bring a brief period of light snow and rain to the region Wednesday afternoon, marking the start of a colder weather pattern across eastern Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, precipitation will begin as light rain or a rain-snow mix before transitioning to light snow as the front moves through. The band of precipitation is expected to sweep from northwest to southeast between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., reaching the St. Louis metro area between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Most locations will see little to no accumulation, though forecasters say a few spots between Columbia, St. Louis, and Farmington could pick up a dusting to an inch. Any accumulation will likely occur on grassy or elevated surfaces, but untreated roads and bridges could develop isolated slick spots during the late-day commute.

Temperatures will fall steadily behind the front, dropping from the mid-30s this afternoon into the 20s overnight. Winds will shift northwest at 10–20 mph, bringing colder and drier air into the region.

Forecasters advise motorists to exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, where brief icing could occur as temperatures fall. The snow will taper off by mid-evening, followed by clearing skies and cold conditions overnight.

Thursday will remain chilly but dry, with highs in the low to mid-30s and wind chills in the 20s. No additional precipitation is expected until early next week.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay updated on changing road conditions and use extra caution during the evening commute.
