ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After several mild fall days, a sharp cold front is poised to cut across Missouri this weekend, bringing a dramatic drop in temperatures and signaling the season’s first extended chill.

According to the National Weather Service St. Louis, highs in the 60s and 70s through Saturday will give way to highs only in the 30s and 40s by Sunday. The front is expected to push through late Saturday night, with brisk northwest winds ushering in much colder air for the second half of the weekend. A few showers may develop Friday night and early Saturday, mainly across central and eastern Illinois, before drier but sharply cooler air takes over.

Forecasters warn that overnight lows could fall into the mid-20s by Sunday night and possibly the upper teens in outlying areas Monday morning. The sudden freeze may catch homeowners off guard after the recent warmth. Residents are urged to winterize outdoor faucets, bring pets indoors, and protect sensitive plants before temperatures plunge.

The cold snap will linger into early next week before slowly moderating midweek. While no snow is expected, wind chills could make it feel even colder, especially during early morning hours Sunday and Monday.
