St. Louis, Mo – The St. Louis region is entering a stretch of oppressive heat, with highs near 98°F expected Saturday before storms begin to break the pattern late in the weekend. Afternoon sun and rising humidity will keep conditions dangerous for outdoor activity.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Friday will reach 95°F under mostly sunny skies before climbing even higher Saturday. A slight chance of thunderstorms arrives Sunday afternoon, offering brief relief but bringing the possibility of heavy downpours and gusty winds.

The heat dome will spread across much of Missouri and southwestern Illinois, with Lambert International Airport and communities like Granite City, Edwardsville, and Belleville seeing highs in the upper 90s through at least Tuesday. Heat index values may push conditions above 100°F during peak hours.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor work, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers are advised to keep emergency water supplies in vehicles, as pavement and cabin temperatures will rise quickly.

The next round of storms is most likely Sunday afternoon into Monday, with scattered chances continuing into midweek.
