St. Louis, Missouri – Light rain is expected to move into eastern Missouri late Wednesday night, with minor wintry mix possible north and west of the metro area.

According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, most of the region will see light rain beginning late Wednesday evening and continuing through early Thursday morning. Rainfall totals are expected to remain under one-tenth of an inch.

Forecasters noted that parts of northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois could see a light wintry mix overnight. Communities including Kirksville, Quincy and areas along the US-63 and US-24 corridors may experience brief slick spots where surface temperatures dip near freezing.

In the St. Louis metro area, including roadways such as Interstate 64, Interstate 44 and Interstate 55, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain. However, drivers traveling north along I-70 toward Columbia or into northeast Missouri should monitor conditions closely.

The weather service emphasized that recent warmer temperatures will likely limit impacts, and widespread travel disruptions are not anticipated. Still, where a wintry mix develops, isolated slick bridges or elevated roadways could form before sunrise Thursday.

Overnight travelers are encouraged to check updated road and weather conditions, especially in areas shaded for potential wintry mix on the latest forecast map.

The timing may affect early Thursday commuters and students traveling before daybreak.

Additional forecast updates are expected if precipitation types or impacts change.
