St. Louis, Missouri – Cold weather will continue to dominate the St. Louis region through the remainder of the week, with only a brief and limited moderation before colder conditions return.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, temperatures today and Wednesday will feel noticeably milder compared to recent days, but most areas will still remain below freezing, aside from a few locations in the Ozarks that may briefly rise above 32 degrees. Any improvement will be short-lived.
By Thursday through Saturday, colder air is expected to settle back into eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois, pushing daytime highs back below freezing and reinforcing overnight lows well into the teens and 20s. Snow already on the ground will be slow to melt, increasing the risk of refreezing during overnight and early morning hours.
Lingering snowpack and fluctuating temperatures could lead to slick spots, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roadways along major travel corridors including Interstates 64, 70, 44, 55, and 255. Commuters should remain cautious during morning and evening travel periods.
While widespread new snowfall is not guaranteed for all locations, snow chances are likely to persist through the end of the week, especially as colder air reinforces itself across the region. Even light accumulations could contribute to hazardous conditions due to the cold ground temperatures.
Residents are encouraged to continue cold-weather precautions, including dressing in layers, limiting time outdoors during the coldest periods, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers should allow extra travel time and remain alert for icy patches, especially where snow has partially melted and refrozen.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring updated forecasts as conditions evolve through the week.
