St. Louis, Missouri – Rain chances climb to 80% along and south of I-70 Saturday, increasing the likelihood of wet roads and slowed travel across eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a soggy Saturday is expected, especially along and south of Interstate 70. Daytime temperatures will remain mainly in the 40s, with the highest rain probabilities centered from Jefferson City to Farmington. Some locations south of I-70 show precipitation chances as high as 80% to 87%.
The National Weather Service in Paducah reports rain showers spreading across western Kentucky and southern Illinois late Friday night into Saturday, with the best chances from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Weekend rainfall totals between 1 and 1.5 inches are possible, including near Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Marion, and Evansville.
Roadways including I-70, I-55, I-24, I-57, and I-69 may see periods of steady rainfall Saturday into early Sunday, potentially creating slick travel conditions. Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and slower traffic during heavier showers.
Forecasters note that dry conditions and a significant warming trend are expected early next week. High temperatures are projected to rise from the upper 50s Sunday into the mid-60s and 70s by midweek.
The weekend system may affect Mardi Gras events, student travel, and early Sunday commuters across the region.
