St. Louis, Missouri – Near-record warmth will peak midweek before thunderstorms and a late-week cooldown move into eastern Missouri.

According to the US National Weather Service in St. Louis, a warming trend will continue through Wednesday and Thursday, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 60s and lower to mid-70s. Wednesday is expected to be the warmest day, with temperatures forecast between 67 and 74 degrees — approaching daily record highs for late February.

Tuesday will remain mostly cloudy with highs in the lower to mid-60s and overnight lows between 51 and 56 degrees. By Wednesday, sunny skies and southwest winds will help boost temperatures well above the normal high in the mid-40s.

A cold front is expected to move through the region Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs Thursday are projected between 65 and 74 degrees before temperatures fall sharply overnight into Friday morning, with lows dropping into the 30s.

Drivers along Interstate 64, Interstate 70, Interstate 44, and Interstate 55 may encounter brief wet pavement and reduced visibility during any thunderstorms Thursday evening. No severe weather has been confirmed, but residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as the front approaches.

By Friday, highs will cool into the mid-40s to low 50s under partly cloudy skies, marking a return closer to seasonal averages.

The midweek warmth may increase outdoor activity, including travel along major interstates during peak afternoon hours.

Residents should stay alert for changing conditions late Thursday as the cold front moves through the region.
