ST. LOUIS – A stretch of warm, golden fall weather will give way to potential Saturday thunderstorms across the St. Louis metro. Sunshine dominates through Friday before a moisture surge from the southwest sparks showers that could briefly dampen weekend plans.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Thursday and Friday will remain unseasonably warm with highs in the low 80s — about 10 to 12 degrees above average for mid-October. Light southeast breezes and dry skies make both days ideal for outdoor work, highway travel, and fall events along I-70 and I-64.

Changes arrive early Saturday as a cold front pushes through Missouri and Illinois. The NWS expects showers and possibly a thunderstorm between late morning and evening, with an 80% chance of rain and isolated lightning possible. Rainfall totals should stay modest, but wet roads could slow travel along I-55 and U.S. 40, especially near the riverfront and airport.

Conditions improve quickly by Sunday as skies clear and highs fall into the upper 60s — perfect for leaf peeping, pumpkin picking, or preparing Halloween displays. By early next week, mild air returns, with highs in the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should secure outdoor decorations and check event plans for Saturday flexibility. The rest of the weekend promises postcard-perfect fall conditions once the brief rain moves out.
