St. Louis, MO – A damp chill hangs over eastern Missouri this morning as clouds settle low and the first December cold push edges into the region. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in St. Louis warn that a rain-to-snow mix could develop Sunday, briefly coating grassy areas and untreated roads as temperatures dip near freezing.
Drivers along I-70 and I-64 should expect wet-to-slick transitions, especially early Sunday when surface temperatures hover near 32°F. Even a light glaze can cause travel slowdowns and minor collisions, particularly on bridges and ramps. While accumulations will likely remain under an inch, timing during morning hours could make conditions tricky for churchgoers, airport travelers, and early-shift workers.
By Monday, skies turn mostly sunny but temperatures remain chilly, topping out near 33°F with brisk northwest winds. Tuesday brings a mild rebound into the upper 40s, a temporary break before another cold front midweek drops highs back near freezing.
Across the Midwest, forecasters are also tracking a larger snow-producing system expected to move into the Great Lakes region Dec. 11–17, which could bring heavier snow bands to Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan as early holiday travel picks up.
Five-Day Outlook for St. Louis:
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 44°F.
- Sunday: Light rain changing to snow, high 39°F.
- Monday: Mostly sunny, high 33°F.
- Tuesday: Sunny, high 50°F.
- Wednesday: Cooler, high 45°F, breezy.
