St. Louis, Missouri – A fast-moving cold front is expected to pass through the St. Louis region late Saturday afternoon into the evening, bringing the potential for brief snow showers and short-term visibility reductions, according to the National Weather Service office in St. Louis.

Forecasters say the front will move through the area between approximately 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the highest chance for snow showers occurring across northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois. While the city of St. Louis may only see spotty snow or flurries, areas just northeast of the metro could experience more noticeable snow showers.

Any snow that develops is expected to be brief and light, with little to no accumulation. However, the National Weather Service cautions that visibility could drop quickly under heavier snow bursts, particularly along highways and during peak travel times Saturday evening.

Drivers are encouraged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially on bridges and open roadways where brief snow showers may create slick spots. Even short-lived snow can impact travel if it coincides with gusty winds or colder air moving in behind the front.

Following the cold front, temperatures will turn colder overnight, leading into a seasonably cold Sunday. High temperatures Sunday are expected to range from 35 to 40 degrees, which is typical for mid-January in the St. Louis area.

Looking ahead, a warming trend is expected early next week. High temperatures are forecast to rebound into the mid-40s to mid-50s on Monday, then climb into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by Tuesday, well above seasonal averages.

For commuters, students, and weekend travelers, the main concern will be brief snow showers during the late afternoon and evening hours Saturday, followed by colder but dry conditions on Sunday.
