St. Louis, Missouri – Another cold night is expected across the St. Louis area tonight, though temperatures will not be quite as frigid as the previous night. Forecasters say a brief moderation midweek will be followed by much colder conditions beginning Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, overnight low temperatures tonight are expected to fall into the lower teens, with some outlying areas dipping near 10 degrees. While conditions will be cold, wind chills are expected to be less extreme than earlier in the week.

Temperatures are forecast to moderate slightly through midweek. Tuesday highs are expected to reach the lower to mid-40s, followed by a warmer day on Wednesday, when highs may climb into the upper 30s to upper 40s across parts of eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois. Overnight lows Wednesday night are forecast to remain in the mid-20s to low 30s.

The mild stretch will be short-lived. The National Weather Service says much colder air is expected to arrive Friday and persist into the weekend, bringing a return to winter-like conditions. While this update focuses on temperatures, forecasters caution that colder air can also contribute to travel concerns, especially if moisture is present on road surfaces.

Drivers traveling overnight or during early morning hours should remain alert for slick spots, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Major travel corridors including Interstate 70, Interstate 64, Interstate 55, and Interstate 44 may be impacted during the coldest periods.

The National Weather Service urges residents to take advantage of the midweek moderation to prepare for colder conditions later in the week. Commuters, students, and early-morning travelers should dress warmly and allow extra time during periods of overnight cold.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring forecast updates as details for the late-week cold become clearer.
