St. Louis, MO – Gusty winds are sweeping across eastern Missouri this morning, with the National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis warning of wind gusts up to 50 mph through midday. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until noon Wednesday for the St. Louis metro and surrounding counties.

Forecasters say sustained winds around 25 to 30 mph, combined with stronger gusts, could make driving difficult—particularly for trucks, vans, and high-profile vehicles along Interstates 44, 55, and 70. Loose outdoor objects, including holiday decorations, trash bins, and patio furniture, may be blown around or damaged if not secured.

The NWS cautions residents to take precautions by bringing in or tying down outdoor decorations ahead of the strongest gusts. Winds are expected to gradually weaken by early afternoon as a cold front pushes through the region, allowing for calmer conditions by tonight.

Despite the strong winds, skies will remain mostly sunny with afternoon highs in the mid-40s to low 50s, dropping sharply into the 20s overnight. Cooler, quieter weather is forecast for Thursday before another round of unsettled conditions returns over the weekend.

Motorists are advised to keep both hands on the wheel, particularly on bridges and open stretches of highway, and to be alert for debris on the roadway.
