St. Louis, MO – Winter-like chill returns to eastern Missouri today as temperatures plunge into the 30s and 40s under blustery northwest winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) St. Louis.
Forecasters say the cold front that moved through overnight will make its presence felt by midday, dropping afternoon highs nearly 30 degrees lower than Tuesday’s readings. Strong winds will create wind chill values about 10 degrees colder than the actual air temperature, making it feel closer to the upper 20s to low 30s during the afternoon commute.
The NWS warns that gusty winds could make driving more difficult for high-profile vehicles and create a chilly experience for anyone outdoors. Conditions will remain breezy through early evening before winds ease slightly overnight.
Thursday and Friday are expected to stay cold but less windy, with highs in the 30s to low 40s and lows dipping into the teens and 20s. Sunshine will return by the weekend, but temperatures will remain well below normal for early December.
Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and limit prolonged outdoor exposure, particularly for children and pets. The NWS also recommends securing lightweight items outside, as occasional gusts could continue through the day.
A gradual warming trend may arrive early next week, but forecasters note that near-freezing mornings will likely persist into the weekend.
