St. Louis, MO – Travelers heading home after Thanksgiving could face slick, snow-covered roads across Missouri as a winter storm pushes in late Friday night, with the heaviest snow expected Saturday morning—particularly along I-70. Drivers from Columbia to St. Louis may encounter reduced visibility, icy conditions, and travel delays during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect primarily for areas north of I-70, but accumulating snow is likely across much of the state. Northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois, including cities like Hannibal, Quincy, and Pittsfield, are expected to see the highest totals—possibly over 3 inches—while southern zones may see less due to a rain-snow mix.
Travel impacts are expected regardless of how much snow falls. MoDOT urges drivers to check road conditions before heading out, especially early Saturday when the storm peaks. Even light snow on untreated roads could lead to black ice and accidents.
Snow will begin late Friday and taper off by Saturday night. Additional advisories or warnings are possible if snow rates or track shift.
