St. Louis, Missouri – A sharp drop in temperatures combined with a quick-moving round of snow is setting the stage for slick road conditions across the St. Louis metro area late tonight into early Friday, especially on elevated roadways and major interstates.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, gusty winds will ease this evening, allowing temperatures to fall rapidly into the mid to upper teens overnight. A band of light snow is expected to move through Thursday evening into early Friday morning, with most areas picking up a dusting to around an inch. In a worst-case scenario, isolated spots could see up to two inches.
The primary concern is not heavy snow but isolated slick spots developing on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Routes including I-64, I-70, I-55, and I-44 could see brief periods of reduced traction during the Friday morning commute. Missouri DOT crews are expected to monitor conditions, but drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.
With clear skies and light winds late tonight, refreezing is likely where snow or melted moisture lingers. Temperatures will remain below freezing through Friday morning before slowly rebounding. Additional winter disturbances are possible this weekend, and more advisories could be issued if snow chances increase.
